Settlers Series - Mixed Media with Annie Rawle

An exploratory day, combining techniques to create your own style

The joy of working in mixed media is all the unexpected effects you discover while experimenting with a variety of media and mark making.

Learn how to build up layers of colour and texture to create complex and interesting surfaces. Using paint, oil pastel, pencil, textiles, paper and more, you will let each layer guide you to the next and you’ll discover how to make those “what should I do next”decisions. Annie usually works in abstract, but the techniques can be utilised to paint any subject in new and exciting ways. You'll be shown tips & tricks and be advised & guided, but overall it will be a day of play & discovery and you'll leave with a mind brimming with ideas.

You can create totally freeform from your imagination or bring some favourite images to use for reference if you prefer.

Historic Settlers Cottage is located at 180 Pearson Street, Churchlands, is owned by the National Trust and currently used as Art Studios. The setting is idyllic, nestled close to the Herdsman Lake, surrounded by trees and wildlife. The venue for our workshops is in the adjacent Shelter area (outdoor undercover with weather protection) and on the shady verandahs of the cottage. With Covid, this is the perfect way to enjoy art activities.
